Orangeburg, SC—The SC State women's softball team split a non-conference softball double-header with Lander, 2-4 and 4-3. The match-up, which was moved off-campus due to Founder's Day Activities, was contested at the Hillcrest Sports Complex in Orangeburg, SC.
Lander appeared to have Game One wrapped up as they led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. SC State then put its offense into motion scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull within one run. A leadoff double and eventual score by the Bobcats Amanda Hamby put Lander up by two runs in the top of the seventh. The Lady Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning as the first two batters of the inning reached base but could not capitalize falling in Game One, 4-2.
Lander opened Game Two with a 2-0 lead by the bottom of the third. Both teams defense held up in the fourth inning as the score remained 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth. Lander scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to pull ahead 3-0. SC State bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored four runs in the inning to go ahead by one, 4-3, the margin of victory for the Lady Bulldogs in Game Two.
The split puts the Lady Bulldogs record at 2-4 on the season. Freshman Arzine Lee (0-2) received the loss in Game One while Raven Johnson (2-2) picked up the win in Game 2.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, Feb 23 at 1 pm when they host Oakland University. All SC State home games, which are played at the Lady Bulldog Softball Field, are free and open to the public.
