Clinton, SC—The SC State softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Presbyterian College, 1-7 and 0-8. The games were contested at the Presbyterian College Softball Complex in Clinton, SC.
Game One was tightly contested through the first two and one-half innings, before Krysten Handy hit a homerun to give Presbyterian College (12-5) a 1-0 lead by the end of the third inning. SC State (3-19) turned up its defense holding the Blue Hose scoreless over the next two innings. The Lady Bulldogs put up one run in the top sixth inning to tie game at 1-1. Presbyterian College bats once again came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning as they put up six runs in its half of the inning to take the six run lead. The Lady Bulldogs could not answer the run total in the top of the seventh, falling in Game One 7-1.
Game Two belonged solely to Presbyterian College, as Megan Durham led off the bottom of the first inning with the Blue Hose's second homerun on the day. Presbyterian College would go on to put up one run in the second, five runs in the third and one run in the fourth to go on to win Game Two 8-0.
Mary Gordon and Brittany Howell picked up the victories in the Games One and Two respectively, while Raven Johnson was the loser in both contests for the Lady Bulldogs.
Note: Senior Channell Thompson scored the Lady Bulldogs only run on the day…She currently leads the team in batting with a .353 batting average.
