SC State to Face Howard in the First Round of the 2010 MEAC Tournament

Lady Bulldogs Head to Tournament for the First Time Since 2005

Ormond Beach, FL--The SC State women's softball team will face Howard University in the first round of the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament, which is being contested at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, FL, will run from Thursday, May 13, to Saturday May 15 with a rain date of Sunday, May16. This year marks the first time since 2005 that the Lady Bulldogs have qualified for the post-season tournament.
 
SC State, who will be the #4 seed in the southern division, enters the tournament with an 8-41 overall record. Howard meanwhile enters the tournament as the #1 seed in the northern division with an overall record of 24-20. The teams will face one another on Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m.
 
This will be the fifth meeting this season between Howard and SC State, with the former having won the previous four contests. 
 
Senior Channell Thompson is currently leading the Lady Bulldogs with a .328 batting average and .966 fielding percentage. Junior Denitia Carter is second in batting and fielding averaging .298 and .939 respectively. Carter also leads the team in stolen bases with 24 of 26.
 
Courtney Young leads Howard in batting averaging .400 while Ciera Gordon leads the team in fielding at .984.  
 
SC State will play its second game Thursday at either 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against an opponent to be determined.
