JACKSONVILLE, FL – The South Carolina State 4x100-meter relay team competed in the NCAA preliminary round of the national championships on Saturday.
The SC State team of Waddell Rembert-Jett, Kemp, Malik Watson and
Daniel Seawright, finished fifth in the second of three heats, in a time of 39.87 for an overall finish of 17th in the event. However, only the top 12 teams advanced to the Nationals.
The 4x100 foursome, which set a school record earlier with a clocking of 39.63, was in contention early but had a problem with an early exchange and fell off the pace.
"We missed a key handoff at the beginning of the race that put us a little off of where we needed to be," said Bulldog head coach
Tim Langford. "But, all in all, the guys ran to the best of their ability. This was the first time SC State sent a relay team to the NCAA prelims in several years and I'm proud of the effort."
Senior sprinter
Demek Kemp will represent the Bulldogs at the 2019 NCAA Track and Field Championship Jun. 5-8 at Austin, TX. Kemp qualified in the 100 meters on Friday.
