THROWBACK THURSDAY: A Look Back In Time

THURMAN C. ZIMMERMAN (Men's Basketball 2001-2005), Columbia, SC – Ranks among the most decorated basketball players in school history…
  • Reaped MEAC Freshman of the Year honors (2002-2003)
  • MEAC Player of the Year accolades (2003-2004)
  • Was All-MEAC first team three seasons (2003-2005) and led SC State to the MEAC Championship and the NCAA Basketball Tournament (2003)
  • Was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 2004
  • Led the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding two seasons 2002-2003 (16.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg.) and 2003-2004 (18.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg.) and was the MEAC leading scorer and rebounder in 2003-2004
  • Hit over .500 of his shots from the field in both 2002-2003 and 2003-2004)
  • Averaged 15.3 pts, 7.8 rebounds., 2.3 assists during his career…started 109 of 116 games for the Bulldogs
PERSONAL
Earned a bachelor's in Family and Consumer Science-Business in 2005…Was an outstanding high school player: 3-time All-Region, 3-time All-Area, 2-time State Champion…."Mr. Basketball" honors…his high teams compiled an 88-8 record during his career…Lives in his hometown of Columbia where he is an Elementary School teacher…Is an assistant coach at Gray Collegiate Academy and also coaches travel ball basketball (Richland County Rebels)…He and his wife, Persephone, are the parents of four children, including a newborn.
