ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State softball team posted an impressive 3-0 series sweep over Morgan State in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play over the weekend inside the Lady Bulldog Softball Field.
South Carolina State improved to 6-8 overall, 3-0 in MEAC, while Morgan State falls 1-15 overall, 0-3 in the league.
WHAT HAPPENED: Outfielder LaShea Morlu provided a solid hitting performance in the series in Game 1 in the 4-3 win she finished with two (2) runs scored, three (3) hits, one (1) RBI and a triple. In Game 2 she posted two (2) runs scored, two (2) hits, two (2) stolen bases and in the final Game 3 Morlu finished with one (1) run scored, two (2) hits, a double and one (1) stolen base with a batting average of .240%., while having a perfect fielding percentage throughout the series.
ROOKIE SPOTLIGHT: True freshman
Dallas Hill helped lead SC State to a 3-0 sweep of Morgan State at home in MEAC Opener. Hill hit the go ahead two (2) run homerun to give SC State the lead in first game of the series with a 4-3 victory. She finished with one (1) run scored, one (1) hit, two (2) RBI's and a homerun with a batting average of .500%. In game two Hill hitting performance resumed with one (1) run scored, one (1) hit, three (3) RBI's and one homerun with a batting average of.444%. She finished the series with five (5) RBI's and two (2) homeruns to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
QUEENS OF THE MOUND: Pitchers
Dymond Roundtree and
Zaena Harris made an immediate impact during the series.
- Roundtree kicked off the winning streak of the series pitching an 4-3 win in Game 1 only allowing 8 hits, 3 runs, 3errors and five (5) strikeouts and one walk allowed.
- Harris was the winning pitcher in Game 3 and pitched a complete game with a pitching era of 0.78 % only allowing six (6), four (4) runs and four (4) strike outs in the Lady Bulldogs 4-1 win of the series.???
Next up: South Carolina returns to action this weekend beginning March 21-22 in a three-game road series at Coppin State. In Baltimore, MD.
