Softball Splits Doubleheader With USC-Upstate

SPARTANBURG, SCThe South Carolina State softball team reached another milestone this season after knocking off USC-Upstate 5-3 in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader inside Cyrill Softball Stadium

The two teams split with the Spartans earning a 10-2 victory in the first contest of the day.

South Carolina State improved to 18-17 overall capturing the teams first win over the Spartans in school history.

The Lady Bulldogs with the win tied for the most wins (18) in season since 2003, where first-year head coach Nakeya Hall was a senior on the SCSU Softball team.

A LOOK INSIDE THE GAME:
In Game 1: SCSU only managed two (2) hits, two (2) runs and two (2) RBI's in the loss.
In Game 2: The Lady Bulldogs finished with five (5) runs, 11 hits and five (5) RBI's in the historic victory.  Senior pitcher Dymond Roundtree pitched a compete game to earn the win.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and excited for what they've accomplished, these wins are a direct reflection of their hard work, commitment, and resilience throughout the season," said SC State head coach Nakeya Hall.
 
Hall noted, "They have earned these moments, and it's rewarding to see their efforts translate into success. Our focus now is on maintaining this momentum as we prepare for the tournament and continuing to represent our program at a high level."
 
NEXT UP: South Carolina State will close out MEAC Play over the weekend on the road at North Carolina Central in a pivotal three-game series in Durham, NC beginning Saturday (April. 25)  at 1 p.m. and followed by a 3 p.m. start.
