NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 31, 2025-- South Carolina State Senior Jourdon Cooper earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Bulldog junior Michael Hopkins was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced Friday.  

North Carolina Central Sophomore Melanne Sutton was selected as Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and North Carolina Central freshman Zion Amadi Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Cooper (Sr., Moncks Corner, S.C.) claimed gold in the Pentathlon at the RADD College Invitational with 3050 points, the top mark in the MEAC this season, which ranks 21st nationally. In the Pentathlon, Cooper finished third in the high jump with a leap of 1.53 meters, ninth in the shot put with a throw of 8.49 meters, sixth in the long jump at 5.03 meters, sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:39.78, and fourth in the 60m hurdles. 

Hopkins (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) claimed gold in the heptathlon at the RADD College Invitational, scoring 4791 points. In the heptathlon, Hopkins finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.00, 10th in the long jump with a distance of 5.87 meters , 11th in the shot put with a throw of 9.87 meters , third in the high jump with a leap of 1.77 meters , fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.90, first in the pole vault clearing 4.75 meters and completed the 1000m in 2:59.66. 

Sutton (So., Greenville, N.C.) finished first in both the 60-meter and 200-meter at the JDL Flat Is Fast Invitational, setting a personal record of 7.49 in the 60m and finishing the 200m in 25.58. 

Amadi (Fr., Burlington, N.C.) competed in three events on Sunday, winning both individual races. In the 200m, Amadi ran a 22.11 time and in the 400m he finished with a time of 50.01, both personal records. As a member of the 4x400, Amadi helped NCCU place second with a time of 3:24.46. 
 
Other Top Performers 

• Angelica Frederick (SCSU) placed second in the 300m with a time of 39.75 at the RADD College Invitational. 
• Javon Brooks (SCSU) claimed first place in the 300 meters at the RADD College Invitational/Multis with a time of 34.21. 

•  Kailei Collins (HU) secured second place in the 60m at the Penn 10 Elite with a MEAC-best time of 7.46. 
• Kendra Ezeama (HU) set a new school record and recorded the MEAC's season-best shot-put mark (14.62m) at the Penn 10 Elite, finishing fifth. 

• Tia Jackson (MSU) claimed victory in the long jump with a leap of 5.88m while also finishing tied for 12th in the high jump at the UMass Lowell Riverhawk Invitational.

• Sa'Niya Fowler (NCCU) won the weight throw with a throw of 16.43m and placed second in shot put (13.62m) at the JDL Flat Is Fast Invitational. 

• Zachary Hawkins (HU) earned bronze in the 60m hurdles at the Penn 10 Elite with a time of 7.90. 
• Sean Wray (HU) finished fourth in the long jump at the Penn 10 Elite with a jump of 7.34m, ranking second in the MEAC. 

• Julian Williams (NCCU) placed third in the shot put at the JDL Flat Is Fast Invitational with a throw of 15.04m, setting a personal best.
