TUSKEGEE, Ala. — South Carolina State bounced back from an opening-set loss and captured three consecutive sets to defeat Tuskegee 3-1 Thursday evening at the Chappie James Center.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped the opening set 25-21 before responding with victories of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-17 to secure the road win.
SC State produced a balanced offensive effort, finishing with
51 kills, 50 assists, eight service aces and 84 digs while hitting .166 for the match. The Lady Bulldogs' attack improved as the match progressed, culminating in a
.344 hitting percentage in the fourth set, when they recorded 13 kills with just two errors on 32 attempts.
Kenna Harris led the Lady Bulldogs offensively with a match-high
13 kills, hitting .286 on 28 attacks.
Ki'ra Wright delivered an all-around performance with
10 kills, three service aces, a match-high 27 digs and one solo block, accounting for a team-high 14 points.
Amani Hawkins added nine kills, while
Taelyn Graham and
Jade Robinson finished with five kills apiece.
Setter
Macey McCoy directed the offense with a team-high
24 assists while adding three kills on seven attacks for a .429 hitting percentage and six digs.
Kiyla Mighty contributed 11 assists, while
Autumn Culbreath added five assists and a match-high four service aces.
Jordan Dalland helped anchor the back row with 15 digs, and
Chloe Neal chipped in 12 digs and five assists.
After being held to a .023 hitting percentage in the first set, SC State steadily found its rhythm. The Lady Bulldogs hit .114 in the second set and .237 in the third before producing their best offensive set of the night in the fourth.
Tuskegee finished with
44 kills, 39 assists, one service ace and 76 digs, hitting .130 overall. Carmyn Lawson paced the Golden Tigers with 12 kills, while Najwa Williams added 11.
The victory improved South Carolina State to
2-5 overall, while Tuskegee fell to
4-6. The match was played before an announced crowd of 75 at the Chappie James Center.
