Lady Bulldog Women's Tennis Team Open Up Season Play Saturday

Sc State began hunt for 9th straight league crown

All-MEAC performer and national ranked Maria Craciun returns for the Lady Buldogs this season.
CHARLESTON, SC—The South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs open up the 2013 season on the road against Charleston Southern, Saturday at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
 
The reigning MEAC women's champion South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs winners of eight straight league titles will remain in the hunt for their 9th MEAC crown after being selected to repeat as 2013 southern division champs. The Lady Bulldogs were 6-0 in MEAC play and 19-1 overall last season and finished with the best record in the country with only one loss. 
 
The Lady Bulldogs will hit the courts 22 times in the 2013 spring season with SC State at home inside the SCSU Tennis Complex only four times this season. Among the opponents SC State is set to battle are North Florida, South Alabama, Creighton, Naval Academy, Gonzaga, George Mason, East Carolina and Siena just to  name a few.
 
Coach Hardeep Judge (351-103 overall, 126-10 MEAC) entering his 12th season at the helm returns three of their top performers from last season's championship team. Leading the way is senior Maria Craciun (15-0 singles), senior Laura Bosneag (12-2), and last season's MEAC Rookie of the Year sophomore Victoria Khatcei (16-1).
 
Craciun an All-MEAC performer earned a national-ranking and was the first player selected as NCAA Single's participant in conference history with her performance on the court last season.
 
Despite a talented team returning, the Lady Bulldogs welcome three newcomers in freshmen Irina Cvijovic, Nataliya Dyatlova, and Kateryna Nakonechna. Sophomore Katarina Barborikova whom saw limited action last season will be call upon to provide a lift this year.

        Both the men's and women's will open up conference play next week when they hit the road to take on Norfolk State.
