NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2014 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 1 at the Delaware State University (DSU) Outreach and Research Center in Smyrna, Del.
The championships will begin with the women's five-kilometer race at 9:45 a.m., followed by the men's eight-kilometer race at 10:30 a.m. For complete men's and women's cross country championship information, visit Championship Central at
www.MEACSports.comOn the women's side, Florida A&M looks to secure their consecutive title. The Lady Rattlers, who won the Berry College Invitational, and has runners placed in the top 15 in conference times this season. Effiey Kosgei paces FAMU after turning in a top time of 18:02.03 at the 5K Mountain Dew Invitational.
Hampton's Ce'aira Brown holds the top time in the MEAC on a 5K course this season with a time of 17:32.00 at the Virginia Union University Invitational. SC State's top time this season was Marketa MArcanikova's 18:35.30 at the College of Charleston Invitational.
The defending MEAC men's champion Florida A&M Rattlers come into the meet seeking their third straight title. The Rattlers' best finish came at the FLRunners.com Invitational with a fourth-place finish. Dieumy Duclos leads Florida A&M as he clocked a time of 28:29.10 at the 8K Embry-Riddle Classic.
SC State's freshman standout
Elijah Case has led the Bulldogs at all six regular-season meets this year. He posted a season-best 8K time of 28:46.00 at the College of Charleston Invitational.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, MEAC student-athletes will wear pink racing bibs, while the head coaches will wear pink ribbon pins during the competition. The MEAC encourages fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The 2014 MEAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are free and open to the public.
