SC State Signs Six to Men’s Cross Country and Track and Field Programs

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State head men's cross country and track and field coach Tim Langford announced Friday the signing of six athletes who will compete for the Bulldogs in the 2014-15 seasons.
 
Roderick Britt, Elijah Case, Demek Kemp, Moses Kennedy, Taylor Simpson and Kameron Wallace will all suit up for SC State starting this fall.
 
Britt (Throws/Dorchester, S.C./Woodland High School) earned All-State honors in the shot put and discus during the 2013 and 2014 outdoor seasons at Woodland High School and won the 2014 State Championship title in the discus. He will team up with his brother Anthony Britt who had the second longest shot put in the MEAC (54' 7½") during the 2014 outdoor season.
 
Personal Records: Discus: 159' 1"; Shot put: 50'10"
 
Langford on Britt: "Roderick will make an immediate impact in the throwing events and will contend for a conference title."
 
 
Case (Middle Distance/Laurens, S.C./Laurens High School) qualified for the South Carolina AAAA State Championship twice in the 400m and ran a personal record of 48.82 as a senior. He also qualified for the 800m at the 2014 state championship meet. He set another personal best, this time in the 800m, at the prestigious Taco Bell Invitational after running the race in 1:56.41. Case showcased his ability and stamina by winning the 400m and 800m titles at this year's AAAA Region I championship.

Langford on Case: "It will be fun to watch Elijah's raw talent develop. He will make an impact on the cross country team and in the 800m and 4x400m relay on the track team."
 
 
Kemp (Sprints/Long jump/Monroe, Ga./Monroe Area High School) had a very successful prep career at MAHS, winning the Georgia State Championship title in the 100m and earning all-state honors in the long jump in 2014. He finished the 2014 outdoor season as the 17th-best high school long jumper in the nation. Kemp's father Timothy was a member of the SC State indoor track and field teams that won the 1981 and 1982 MEAC Indoor Championship titles under legendary coach Robert "Jet" Johnson.
 
Personal Records: 100m: 10.57; 200m: 21.73; Long jump: 24' 4"
 
Langford on Kemp: "The team will benefit from Demek's versatility and he will be very competitive on the conference, regional and national stages. The jumping trio of Demek, Bryson Brown and Michael Wamer will look to take the conference by storm."
 
 
Kennedy (Hurdles/Washington, D.C./McKinley Tech High School) was a two-time state qualifier in the 55-meter hurdles at McKinley Tech who won the 2014 Washington DC State Indoor Championship as a senior. He also claimed the City Championship titles in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.
 
Personal Records: 55m hurdles: 7.57; 110m hurdles: 14.69; 400m hurdles: 57.47
 
Langford on Kennedy: "We expect Moses to be very competitive in the 60-, 110- and 400-meter hurdles and to fill the void left by graduated senior Barry Bethea, the 2014 MEAC Outdoor Champion in the 400m hurdles."
 
 
Simpson (Distance/Columbia, S.C./Ridge View High School) will add depth to the distance runners on both the cross country and track and field teams. He was injured during his senior year at Ridge View, but will be ready to compete for the Bulldogs in the fall.
 
Personal Records: 1600m: 5:19.65; 3200m: 11:45.24; 5000m: 18:40
 
Langford on Simpson: "We will be counting on Taylor to be a top-five runner in cross country and to score in the long-distance events during the indoor and outdoor seasons."
 
Wallace (Distance/Covington, Ga./Newton High School) posted season-bests of 4:48.18 in the 1600m and 2:09.47 in the 800m during the 2014 outdoor season. He also earned All-Georgia Region 2-AAAAAA honors in the 1600m.
 
Personal Records: 1600m: 4:48.18; 5K (cross country): 17:28.66
 
Langford on Wallace: "Kameron has raw talent and is a hard worker. He will compete for a top spot on the cross country team and will be relied upon to score some much-needed points in the long distance events during the track and field seasons."
