NORFOLK, VA—Ten SC State University Bulldogs were named to the preseason all-conference team, while SC State was picked to finish second behind, the defending Co-champion Bethune-Cookman in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as voted by the league's head football coaches and sports information directors.
The announcements were made at the MEAC's Annual Football Press Luncheon held Friday afternoon at the Norfolk Marriott Waterside Hotel in Virginia.
Senior offensive linemen
Domanic Wilson and
Devin Flowers, along with SBN All-American defensive ends
Andrew Carter and
Alex Glover all earned All-MEAC First Team honors, while redshirt sophomore running back
Justin Taylor, redshirt junior tight end
Temarrick Hemingway, redshirt junior defensive lineman
Javon Hargrave earned Second Team All-MEAC accolades.
Senior wide receiver
Dennis Rowe, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman
Eric Dickerson and senior linebacker
Justin Hughes all were named to the All-MEAC Third Team respectively.
"I am very pleased that our guys got some early preseason recognition, but we still have a lot of work to do if we want to stay in the mix of things in the conference," said SC State head coach Buddy Pough. There is a lot of talent in this league and I am sure this will be an exciting year in the MEAC."
Carter (Hamlet, NC) recorded 47 total tackles, 32 solos, with 15.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks earning him All-MEAC honors as well as SBN All-American honors last season.
Glover (Charlotte, NC) finished with 41 tackles and 14.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 5 sacks earning him All-MEAC honors as well as SBN All-American honors.
SC State is coming off its best turnaround under the Pough era finishing with a 9-4 overall and a 7-1 in the conference record earning their fifth league championship under Pough, while picked second for the second straight year.
With a second place prediction for 2014, SC State is listed ahead No. 3 North Carolina A&T, No. 4 Howard and No. 5 Delaware State to round out the top five teams.
"I don't really get involved into any preseason predictions or order of finish, "Pough said. "It's not where you start the season its how you finish and that's what's important to us."
