PRESEASON PRACTICE BRIEF: Bulldogs Conduct Wednesday Workouts

Evening Practice Ends With Enthusiastic Session

ORANGEBURG, SC -- South Carolina State continued preseason football workouts Wednesday with two practices – a 9:30 morning drill and a 7:10 evening session.

In both workouts, the Bulldogs concentrated on special teams, with an emphasis on techniques and blocking drills. Coach Buddy Pough's teams also continued to work on techniques on offense and defense, with the running game installation and stopping the run.

"We had two lively practices today," Pough said. "We had good sessions and I think our players took advantage of being out here. I am really excited about our special teams and some of the young guys, they really seem to be coming along adjusting well to things.

"Tomorrow we go full gear and get a chance to do some live drills where we can put some pressure on some of the teams we are playing," stated Pough. "It should be a fun spirited practice in the morning session."

With two-a-day preseason drills wrapping up, Pough did express some concern that several players were banged up and were unable to practice.

Pough and junior running back Jalen Simmons along with SBN All-American senior defensive ends Andrew Carter and Alex Glover were featured on the national syndicated radio show "Sports Talk" hosted by Phil Kornblut.

South Carolina State was the first stop on the annual "Palmetto Pigskin Tour", Thursday at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium.

SC State will return to the practice field Thursday in an early morning session at 9:30 a.m. in full gear, before closing out weekly preseason drills with a two-a-day on Friday at 9:30 a.m., and 7:10 p.m.

MEET THE PLAYERS DAY
SC State will hold its annual "Meet the Players Day" Saturday (Aug, 16), beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, following a 10 a.m. scrimmage.

The annual event, sponsored by The STATE Club – the Bulldog boosters – will give fans an opportunity to meet the Bulldog players, take pictures, get autographs and have lunch with the players. Most of the activities are free; however, the cost of lunch with the players is $10 for adults and $5 for person's 17-years old and under.
