ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State essentially put a wrap on its preseason camp Monday with an hour and a half 9:30 a.m. morning session workout at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium.
"The guys worked really hard this morning so we wouldn't have an afternoon practice," said head coach Buddy Pough. "Overall we had a good camp and got a lot done in the past two weeks.
Pough stated, "We are deeper than we have ever been on the depth chart this season. I am really excited about some of the young guys (newcomers) and of course of veteran returners on how they can help our football team during the upcoming season."
SC State survived another tough preseason with only a few players escaping with some minor injuries.
"I am concerned about a few of our players at this point," said Pough. "Some of our key guys have some injuries that I am worried about but we are optimistic that we will have them back in time before the season starts."
The Bulldogs will have Tuesday off for the first day of classes, but will return to the field on Wednesday to prepare for the season-opener against the Tigers.
SC State will kick off their 2014 campaign Saturday, Aug. 30, at 5 p.m., on the road against Benedict College in the Palmetto Capital City Classic in Columbia, SC at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium. Kick-off is 5 p.m.
