ORANGEBURG,SC--In 1979-80 the SC State Aquadogs led by George Jordan and Bulldog Hall of Famer Ross McConahey amassed an amazing 441 points to capture the Third Annual National Black Swimming and Diving Championships, after being runner-ups the two previous years.
Jordan, the winner of three individual events, was named the Most Valuable Swimmer, while McConahey (100-yd freestyle) and divers Carl Yett and Tommy Green swept the one and three-meter diving competition taking first and second place in both events.
During the campaign, the team was recognized in Ebony and Jet magazines and also honored, along with Coach Robert Bradley, with a Resolution by the Orangeburg County Council for its achievements.
Team Members were– Coach Robert Bradley, Lawrence Mallory (Captain), William Bowles (Co-Captain), Joseph Ross McConahey (2012 HOF Inductee), Karl Yett, Richard Giles, Marc Hackett, Karl Berry, George Zeigler, Gary Lynn, Kim James, Duane Johnston, Gorge Jordan, Reginald Armstead, Larry Greene and manager Raymond Harris.
