ORANGEBURG,SC--Former South Carolina State defensive back Phillip Adams has signed a free-agent contract with the New York Jets of the National Football League, the league announced.
The  Jets acquired the Rock Hill native after he spent the preseason with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Pro Football Focus had Adams playing 38 snaps in Seattle's preseason finale against Oakland.
A 2010 seventh-round draft pick by San Francisco out of South Carolina State, Adams has tallied 66 tackles and three interceptions in stints with the 49ers, New England, Seattle and Oakland.
There are currently five former SC State players on NFL rosters – Adams, safeties Rafael Bush (New Orleans) and Kimario McFadden (Tampa Bay), cornerback Jakar Hamilton (Dallas) and linebacker Marshall McFadden (Oakland). Marshall McFadden is currently on injured reserve, Kimario McFadden was signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad.
