Funeral Services Set for SCSU Hall of Famer, O-W Principal

ORANGEBURG, SC – Funeral services for David Lee Norman, a standout football player at South Carolina State during his college days (1982-85), and an SCSU Hall of Fame inductee, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 28, at 11 at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, 601 Bruin Parkway.  Burial will follow at Belleville Memorial Gardens.
 
Norman, 50, who was principal at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High, died Monday in Houston, Texas.
 
Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg, SC is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home, 907 Russell Street, or at the residence, 1006 Senate Street, Orangeburg.
 
A Lincolnton, Ga. native, Norman earned a bachelor's from S.C. State in 1986. During his Bulldog football career, he earned All-MEAC honors as both a wide receiver and kick returner. He set then-school records in receptions in a game (9), season (45) and career (75). He was inducted into the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
 
Norman's career included several years as a coach and teacher before he became a principal, first at Blackville, SC, and later in Orangeburg.
 
He is survived by his wife Debra Norman, of the home, and a daughter, Taylor Simone Norman.
