DAYTONA BEACH, FLA—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will close out the regular season on the road against the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Thursday (March. 5) at Moore Gymnasium. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m., immediately following the women's contest in a 5:30 p.m., start.
Plagued my many injuries this season, the Bulldogs are 7-8 in the MEAC, 10-20 overall and is in 7
th place in league standings, while Bethune-Cookman enters the contest in 8
th place at 6-9 in the league, 10-20 overall.
LAST MEETING: SC State knocked off Bethune-Cookman 71-66 (12/8/14) at home in Orangeburg. Freshman guard
Edward Stephens tossed in a game-high 26 points in the win.
BULLDOG BITE: Freshman guard
Edward Stephens has earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors six times this season. Stephens currently leads the team in scoring with 12 ppg and 3.0 rebounds.
South Carolina State also tally nearly seven steals per game while forcing almost 13 turnovers. Sophomore guard
Greg Mortimer is second on the team with 8.4, while junior forward
Darryl Palmer is the leader on the board with 7.0 rebounds, 7.7 points and 2.2 blocks per game.
Meanwhile, BC-U has three players in double figures with Clemmye Owens leading the way with 15.3 ppg, while teammates Brandon Steward adds 14.1 points and 5.3 rebounds and guard Ricky Johnson chips in 12.7 for the Wildcats.
South Carolina State heads to Norfolk, Va. for the 2015 MEAC Tournament which runs from March 9-14 at the Scope Arena.
