Box Score PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—South Carolina State's
Bryeasha Blair scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 39 minutes of play to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 67-60 conference win over Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday at the Hytche Center.
South Carolina State led in several categories throughout the day such as points in the paint (22-10), points off turnovers (16-16) and points from the bench (25-10).
Brittany Drumgoole finished with 11 points and four assists, while
Jahmia Bradley added 10 points in the win. Blair also tallied 7-of-9 free-throws from the charity stripe
.
The Shore jumped out to a quick 13-point lead off a three pointer by Moengaroa Subritzky at the 5:44 mark in the first quarter. Drumgoole led the way to close out the quarter sparking an 16-4 run to cut the lead to one, 19-20 to end the period.
Freshmen forward
Alexis Scott's layup gave South Carolina State their biggest lead of the half six, 32-26 with 2:34 remaining during intermission. Keyera Eaton cut the lead to three, 34-31, on a driving layup with 0:47 seconds left before the half. South Carolina State led 34-31 during halftime.
The third quarter was nip-and-tuck throughout with the Lady Bulldogs building their largest margin four, 47-43 off a Blair layup with 1:55 remaining. Bradley (4-of-4) tossed in a pair of free-throws late in the fourth quarter to give South Carolina State a commanding 10-point lead, 67-57, with 0:09 seconds remaining in regulation.
South Carolina State held on to improve to 2-5 in MEAC play, 5-13 overall, while Maryland Eastern Shore falls to 8-9 overall, 2-4 in the league.
The Shore had three players in double figures with Keyera Eaton leading the way with 14 points and five assist. Subritzky added 13, including four three-pointers and Mariah McCoy chipped 11 points and five rebounds in the loss.
NEXT UP: South Carolina State close out a three-game road swing Monday (Jan. 30) in Washington, DC when they take on host the Howard Bison in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader.
