Regina Garrett finished with 17 to lead South Carolina State to an, 82-49 ,victory over Florida A&M Monday (Feb.26
th) at the Lawson Center.
The Lady Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 10-17 overall, 5-10 in the MEAC. FAMU falls to 6-22 overall, 4-11 in the league.
Blair also finished with five rebounds and eight (8) steals. Junior guard Kemoni Jenkins added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while junior forward Jasmine Williams chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals in the win.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out early to a commanding 29-3 lead in the first quarter. SC State led 59-32 during intermission with Blair scoring 21 of her 26 points at the half.
The second-half belong to SC State pushing their lead to 36, 79-43, off a layup by junior forward Jaquanna Murray late in the fourth quarter at the 3:06 mark. Junior forward Esther Udonsi closed out the game on a steal and a layup as time expired to give the Lady Bulldogs the victory.
South Carolina State had its best day shooting from the field 51.7% (31-of-60) and 50% (7-of-14) from behind the three-point arc. The Lady Bulldogs also dominated in several categories including points in the paint (36-14), second chance points (20-17) and points off the bench (16-9).
FAMU was led by Dy'Manee Royal with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Shakeyrra Morrison added 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds in the loss.
South Carolina State close out the regular season at home Thursday (March. 1) when they host Savannah State at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. for the women and for the men a 7:30 p.m. start.
